How to store Champagne?
Whether you’ve splurged on a luxury bottle or received an Artisan Champagne, each bottle deserves proper care to preserve its elegance, flavor, and fizz. As any trusted Champagne store, we know that storing your bottle the right way makes all the difference. Here’s your go-to guide for storing Champagne like a pro.
1. Keep It Cool and Consistent
Champagne thrives in cool, stable temperatures. Aim to store your bottle between 7°C and 15°C (45°F to 59°F). Avoid areas with extreme temperature changes, such as kitchens or near heating vents, as fluctuations can spoil both flavor and aging potential.
2. Shield from Light
Light, especially UV rays, is Champagne’s enemy. Exposure to light can trigger premature aging and degrade the delicate flavors. Your best bet? Store bottles in a dark, quiet place, like a wine cellar or a covered wine rack, to protect their integrity.
3. Store Horizontally
Unlike some still wines, Champagne should be stored horizontally. This keeps the cork moist, ensuring a tight seal and preventing air from entering the bottle. A dry cork can shrink, allowing bubbles and flavor to escape, something no Champagne lover wants!
4. Know When to Enjoy It
With optimal storage conditions, your Champagne can age beautifully for 2 to 3 years. But if you can’t provide these conditions, it's best to enjoy your bubbly within 3 to 4 weeks of purchase.
