Champagne Dosnon

Biodynamic champagne from the Côte des Bar, aged in Burgundian oak barrels on Kimmeridgian limestone soils near Chablis.

Champagne Dosnon

Where Champagne Meets Burgundy

Champagne Dosnon sits in one of the most fascinating corners of the region: Avirey-Lingey, in the Côte des Bar, just 30 kilometres north of Chablis. That proximity to Burgundy is not just geographical; it defines the terroir, the winemaking philosophy, and the character of the wines.

Davy Dosnon comes from a multi-generational grower family whose harvest notebooks date back to 1915, started by his great-grandfather. After studying viticulture and gaining experience in top Burgundy houses, Davy returned home to reassemble the family's vineyards and create something new from something old.

Today the estate farms 7.5 hectares of Pinot Noir (60%), Chardonnay (35%), and Pinot Meunier (5%), with 2 hectares owned and 5.5 rented. The soils are Kimmeridgian and Portlandian limestone, the same ancient seabed that gives Chablis its famous minerality and steely tension. This geological connection shapes wines with delineation, power, and a purity that feels distinctly southern Champagne.

Since 2022, the estate has been certified biodynamic, deepening an already strong and personal relationship with the land. For anyone interested in how champagne terroir connects to the broader landscape of French winemaking, Dosnon is a revelatory and essential producer.

Burgundian Barrels, Champagne Bubbles

Davy's time in Burgundy left a lasting and deliberate imprint on his winemaking. Fermentation takes place in 228-litre, 500-litre, and 600-litre Burgundian oak barrels, using natural yeasts that are native to the estate. The oak adds subtle breadth, texture, and a gentle spice note without overwhelming the fruit, resulting in champagnes that feel vinous and complex in a way that steel-tank-fermented wines rarely achieve.

The flagship is a 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard in Avirey-Lingey, bottled with zero dosage: pure, focused, and mineral-driven, a wine that demands your attention. The 70/30 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend, with just 5 grams per litre of dosage, is more approachable but equally compelling in its own way. The Blanc de Blancs, from 100% Chardonnay, showcases the limestone terroir beautifully with notes of citrus, chalk, and white flowers.

The Henri Dosnon label, named after Davy's grandfather, extends the range with a nod to family heritage and generational continuity. Each cuvée reflects a different facet of the estate, and the Burgundian barrel aging ties them together with a shared sense of depth, richness, and terroir transparency. These are not simple sparkling wines; they are serious, cellar-worthy champagnes.

Why Dosnon Earned Its Place in Our Collection

We selected Champagne Dosnon because it represents a style of champagne that challenges convention in the most delicious way. The Côte des Bar already stands apart from the northern heartland of Champagne, and Dosnon pushes that distinctiveness further with Burgundian winemaking techniques and biodynamic farming practices.

Davy is a vigneron who thinks like a Burgundian: every parcel matters, every vintage is unique, and the wine should express its origin without compromise or shortcut. The Kimmeridgian limestone terroir gives these champagnes a mineral backbone that is rare and distinctive, and the barrel aging adds a complexity that rewards slow, attentive drinking. Whether you gravitate toward the power of the pure Pinot Noir or the elegance of the Blanc de Blancs, there is something here that will make you reconsider what champagne can be.
